A patient of Asthma can have an asthmatic attack anytime. If while fasting, he gets an asthmatic attack, can he use his inhaler?

Answered by: Sheikh Zafar ul Hasan

According to the agreed upon opinion of Sharia scholars, inhaler can be used while fasting without affecting the fast.

Reason:

According to the religious scholars, when the inhaler is pumped, it releases the medicine along some air, which does not reach the stomach. Instead, it helps to dilate the veins. It is not related to stomach or food or drink. When using inhaler, the patient does not feel satiated. So, the scholars agree that if a patient uses inhaler in case of need, while fasting, it does not affect his fast and he does not need to offer  qada (قضاء) for his fast.
