What is the importance of Qiyam in Ramadan?

Answered by: Sheikh Zafar ul Hasan

The Virtue of Qiyam (Standing in prayer) in Ramadan:

Hadith:

Abu Huraira reported:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to exhort (his Companions) to pray (at  night) during Ramadan, without commanding them to observe it as an obligatory act and used to mention great rewards and goodness for it.

Sahih Muslim:1780

Hadith:

Narrated by Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

Whoever establishes Qiyam (standing in prayer) in the night of Qadr, out of sincere faith and in hope to attain Allah's rewards only, then all of his past sins would be forgiven.

Sahih Bukhari: 35

Hadith:

Abu Dharr narrated: Prophet of Allah ﷺ said:

Indeed, whoever stands (in prayer) for Taraweeh with the Imam until he finishes (salatul witr) then it is recorded for him that he prayed for the whole night.

Tirmidhi: 806

Things to Do:

We should all try to offer Taraweeh in congregation and offer Salatul Witr with congregation, too, so that by praying along the Imam our whole night is recorded as in prayer.
