Can Children prevent their parent’s divorce?
‘Yes and No’ - Depends upon the attachment of the parents with their children.
I was a party in causing a reconciliation between a fighting couple who had two young sons under 10. The couple had a history of regular violent fights and abusive allegations. Once the matter went too far and it all appeared the end of the road for the marriage till - In the family gathering, the young boy got up and announced with a soft voice - 'Mamma please don't leave us, if you are angry at pappa, you may shout at us instead, we will not mind, but we do mind being separated.' At the same time the older boy too joined his brother - 'Papa if you are angry you ma hit us but not our mother. We will not complain to anyone.'
There was a chorus of an emotional sigh from the people in the room. A silent minute passed by. The mother got up and hugged her sons and wept aloud. I will stay together even if your dad kills me ! The father got up and announced - I will never hit you from now and he ran inside his room to hide his tears. The patch up worked instantly and till today they live happily.
The above couple often ran through stormy fights which lasted only for a moment but left behind huge damage on the psyche of the children.
Does anyone have an idea or incident to share where children played a pivotal role in saving the marriage of their parents? Please share it.
